The Ol’ Man and the New Man
Romans 8:1-9
Old Man = Carnal Man
Carnal—G4559,sarkikos from sarx, flesh, signifies (a)”having the nature of flesh,” i.e. sensual, controlled by animal appetites,governed by human nature 1
Carnally—G4560, sarkinos (a) “consisting of flesh, (b) “pertaining to the natural, transient life to the body, (c) given up to the flesh.” 2
Three things about the Ol’Man:
1. Can’t obey the law!

Ol’ Man is condemned to death, both physically and
spiritually.
New Man = Presence of the Holy Spirit.

1. God helps to obey the law!

The Law could never save us from ourselves, only Jesus gave us the possibility to do so. In a battle of wills, the Ol’ Man must die so that the New Man can live! While we recognize that Satan and other dark forces are at war over our souls, the biggest enemy will always be ourselves!
